Kilar | NINATEKA Collection

Musical themes from Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula and Jane Campion’s Portrait of a Lady, as well as outstanding compositions from concert halls and philharmonics around the world. We’ve released over 130 pieces by Wojciech Kilar as part of our NINATEKA Collection.

The Wojciech Kilar collection is more than just a comprehensive online archive of the composer’s work: it is a new perspective on Kilar’s music, prepared by Dr. Iwona Lindstedt and a team of music scholars.

The collection features newly discovered material from the composer’s personal archive along with rare content such as never-before-published photographs, detailed analyses of the pieces (enriched with commentary by Kilar himself) and reviews from critics and musicologists, most of which are contemporaneous to the music.

An important part of the collection is the separate section devoted to film scores. It includes fifty expert articles covering Kilar’s most important scores for Polish and foreign films: Kazimierz Kutz’s Nobody’s Calling, The Doll by Wojciech Jerzy Has, Krzysztof Zanussi’s Structure of Crystals, Andrzej Wajda’s Promised Land and Pan Tadeusz, and Roman Polański’s Death and the Maiden and The Ninth Gate.

The articles are accompanied by recordings and around 120 film excerpts featuring Kilar’s most acclaimed musical motifs.

One of Kilar’s most original and moving pieces - from Konwicki's Salto.

Like earlier musical collections published by Ninateka, the Wojciech Kilar collection is available in Polish and English. A significant portion of the pieces were provided by the Polish Radio Archive and were digitized as part of the Culture+ program.
